How to Plan a Responsible Trip to Africa

Image
Africa is filled with beautiful tourist destinations and has something for everyone. Some of This pics and articles  will show you the best ways to travel around Africa responsibly. Africa Travel: Use a Responsible Tour Operator This is probably the number one recommendation, as your money will be filtering through to all the numerous sub-contractors that your operator will be using. A responsible tour operator will not only be protecting you, but will also be looking out for the service providers that they employ, as well as the environmental well-being of the countries concerned. Often this can result in you paying a little more so that these sub-contractors are being adequately compensated. Africa is always a buyer's market and the competition for your business is intense, so it is worthwhile for you to do your research into which are the most conscientious operators, and you want to make sure that you are not saving money at the expense of the service provider

Nobody is singing my kind of songs, they are scared -Eedris Abddulkareem

Image
Eedris Abddulkareem has disclosed to the Vanguard newspaper that he is the reason everybody is getting paid in the Nigerian music industry. In addition, he said: “I am the reason everybody is doing great videos. If I didn’t fight then, everybody would have been treated like dirt. I am an Olympic torch bearer. I have made my point. We got to move on with life. That is what makes me different..My vacancy is still there. He also said “Nobody is singing my kind of songs. They are scared. They cannot wear my shoe because it is painful. I will always be relevant whether anybody likes it or not. If what happened to me when former President Obasanjo fought me because of my song, Nigeria Jagajaga, and the 50 Cent wahala, had happened to another musician, people would have forgotten about that person a long time ago.”

Mercy Johnson now Nigeria’s busiest actress;pockets N1.5m per script

Image
Mercy Johnson is Nigeria’s busiest actress, YES International! investigations have revealed. The Igbira, Kogi State born movie star, according to our findings, is also one of the richest actresses right now. She allegedly pockets between N1.5m and N2m per script. And ever since she became the hottest thing in Nollywood, no month passes by without her interpreting at least two movie roles. We even learnt that producers queue up now to have her take part in their movies, with most of them crediting her account up front. “The situation has been like that for some time now. Even when she was pregnant, she was still working non-stop, including shooting a movie in the United States of America with her bulging tummy. As a matter of fact, the producers were so desperate that they started writing scripts to align with her pregnancy”. Among Mercy’s latest works are: Obioma The Slave Girl, Sleeping Walker, Heart of A Twin 1 & 2, Mud of Hardship, Dumebi and Bitterleaf Cyhti

Yvonne Nelson is ungrateful – GAG President

Image
Nii Odoi Mensah, President of the Ghana Actors Guild (GAG) has described actress Yvonne Nelson as a very ungrateful person. His comment is in response to her recent statement that the Guild did not come to ‘her rescue when she was banned from acting by the Film Producers of Ghana (FIPAG) in 2010. “When my issue came up, the Actors Guild did nothing for me. They only came, sat, had some meetings and that was all. They did nothing for me,” Yvonne Nelson stated when she appeared on the Hanging Out With KOD televi¬sion show over the weekend. Yvonne went ahead to acknowledge Majid Michel, Frank Rajah and Fred Nuamah as persons who came to her rescue,. This has however not gone down well with the GAG president who has challenged the credibility of Yvonne’s statement. “If Yvonne Nelson really said that, then she is a very ungrateful person and I would be very disappointed in her. If she was able to say that the Actors Guild did nothing for her when FIPAG banned heir, then

Kweku Vibes TOP Photograpaher of the week: KING GEORGE

Image
Our  top photographer  of  the  weeks goes  to GEORGE KING of  Emmanuel bobbie photography,"As  a  profession photographer  who  has  been  in this  industry  over a decade ,there  has  been  hights  and  lows for  me but one  thing that  keeps  me  going is  the  passion i  have for what  i do....." I spent my childhood in sunshine and occasionally in rain. On one weird day, we were playing five aside football on the pavements of North K Road, . I don’t remember whether my team was winning or losing but I guess it didn't really matter in the end. Normally when it starts raining, it is natural to dash for cover. Even children do that. On that mystical day, half of us did run for cover whilst the other half looked at us, wondering if we were alright. We were drenched but they were as dry as Harmattan’s backside. And then finally, it hit us all. It was raining only on our side of the pavement. How's that possible? How could only my left had be getting wet w

FOKN Revenge”Coz of Moni- Friday Feb 21

Image
The FOKN BOIS (AKA Foes Of Kwame Nkrumah, AKA Fear Of Knowing Nothing, AKA French Objects Killing Ninjas, AKA For Our King Now) are Ghana’s most famous and–thank the lord, only–Christian gospel porn rap group, purveyors of a world renowned brand of smut, irreligion, poor morals, crude humor, and jovial ill-temper. Afropop Worldwide is proud to sponsor the debut US screening of their second film, Coz Ov Moni 2: FOKN Revenge , on Friday, February 21st. Rappers M3NSA and Wanlov The Kubolor - together known as the FOKN Bois , are the masterminds behind the film “ Coz ov Moni 2: FOKN Revenge .” Emerging from a West African culture in the midst of a full fledged, tech-savvy renaissance, the FOKN Bois are proud Ghanians committed to poking fun at the tenderest parts of their society through nuanced jokes about religion, sex and food. At the same time, they are discerning consumers of global pop culture, refusing pigeonholing by creating music that is equally in tune with US r

How to prepare :Simple Okra stew

Image
Okra or okro (lady’s fingers/bhindi) is the lusciously fabulous fruit of the okra plant and is popular in West African, Ethiopian and Asian cooking. It is highly nutritious and is a good source of calcium, potassium, folic acid, fiber and vitamin C. I remember my mother chopping it into tiny pieces to add to a beef and okro stew which we would eat with banku, a Ghanaian starchy staple made out of fermented cassava or corn dough or a combination of both. It is also a popular addition to peanut soup or other soup variations. People who are not used to it may be put off by the slimy consistency of the okra as it is cooked, but it doesn’t always have to be that way. In this recipe, I have made a simple okra stew by keeping the pods whole, thus reducing the release of the slimy juices. This recipe is worth a try and only needs a hint of palm oil in order to taste just as authentic as any West African okra stew. And it is also perfect for an absolutely vegan and vege

African Athletes At Sochi

Image
Despite the general lack of snow in Africa, athletes from 3 (possibly 4) African nations will compete in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi (7 - 23 February). It will be the first time both Togo and Zimbabwe are represented at a Winter Olympics.  The athletes are  largely self-financed and share a common dream that embodies the Olympic spirit. None are expected to medal. For most of them, just qualifying for the Olympics and getting to Sochi is reason enough to celebrate. Generations of Zimbabweans have never even seen a dusting of snow fall on their beautiful land, but there is a  Zimbabwe Snow Sports Association and they have their first winter Olympian to support - 20 year old Alpine  skier, Luke Steyn . Steyn has had to hone his skills in the US, New Zealand and Chile. This past winter he drove all over Europe trying to compete to get enough points to qualify for Sochi. He'll be competing in the slalom and giant slalom events. Steyn is unlikely to medal, but

Exclusive interview with Daniel Adongo

Former Kenyan National junior team rugby player Daniel Adongo joined National Football League (NFL) side Indianapolis Colts late last year. The linebacker debuted in the team’s match against Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday 8 December 2013 and has played one more game since then. Adongo is currently holidaying in the country (Kenya) during the NFL off season. He says everything has been going on well at Colts and he’s now working on performing better once the league resumes. “I have enjoyed every bit of it and don’t regret making the switch from rugby to American Football. I knew nothing about American Football when I initially joined Colts but I have learnt so much within the short time thanks to my team mates and coaches,” Adongo said. Adongo was scouted while playing for Strathmore School in the 2006 edition of the Safaricom Sevens and joined Natal Sharks Academy in South Africa the following year. Following that he played for several rugby outfits in South Africa, i
