Jay Z splits from longtime business partner – report

Image
Jay Z has reportedly parted ways from the longtime business partner who helped build his successful empire. The 99 Problems hitmaker has collaborated with former finance executive John Meneilly for years, and he is credited as one of the driving forces behind the rise of Jay’s Rocawear clothing line and record label Roc Nation. He also reportedly helped facilitate a major deal with technology giant Samsung last year (13), which helped to shift a million copies of the rapper’s Magna Carta Holy Grail album. Now the New York Post reports the two have parted ways, but it is unclear as to what caused the split and if they parted on good terms. One insider tells the newspaper it was “amicable”, while another music industry source says it “wasn’t Meneilly’s choice to leave”. Source :Elaborbiz

Guess what :GT wasn’t Sold for $900m

Image
For the first time in eight years, the alleged sole negotiator of the sale of Ghana’s 70 percent stake in Ghana Telecom to Vodafone Holdings BV, former President John Kufuor has confirmed widely held notion that the then state-owned Telecommunication Company was indeed not sold for the $900m the government had claimed. As if under spell or being haunted by his conscience to reveal what actually went into the sale of GT, former President John Kufuor, who was alleged to have ignored companies offering higher bids for the former state owned company, announced that though GT was sold for the amount mentioned and that $900million cash was duly paid to Ghana; he nevertheless, admitted even if inadvertently, his government actually earned $500million from the deal. Sale of the company in 2006, which is still being challenged in court by three stalwarts of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), generated huge public uproar with the then biggest opposition party, the National De

Seven thousand, two hundred and seventy-two tourists patronized this year’s paragliding festival at Kwahu in the Eastern Region as against 124 tourists recorded in 2013. Data gathered by the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) on the sport during the Easter holidays revealed that the festival had gained popularity and acceptance in the country. The festival, it noted, has also turned the spotlight on the tourism potential of the Kwahu area. Throwing more light on the statistics on paragliding during an interaction with the media in Accra over the weekend, Acting Executive Director of GTA, Charles Osei Bonsu, said the development was very vital in evolving planning tourism development strategies in the country. The statistics also revealed that the number of first time gliders stood at 89.2 per cent, while second time gliders constituted 9.5 per cent of participants. On the nationality of the Han gliding and paragliding patrons, Ghanaians constituted 51 percent, Germans, 44 percent and Amer

And SARKODIE wept on stage Morden testerment

Image
All over the world, renowned performers are sometimes confronted by zealous and admiring fans who weep, break down and even faint on seeing their idols perform. Last Saturday, Sarkodie, the “Obidiponbede”, unable to contain one such emotional demonstration ended up weeping himself right in front of the large audience at the Ghana Meets Naija concert held at the Accra International Conference Centre. The show had travelled over halfway into its run and Ghana’s reigning Best Rapper was in full flight delivering his share of goodies to patrons. Sporting an all black costume and black shades to complement his dapper appearance, the “Rapperholic” was killing it. Then out of the blue, a female fan obviously overwhelmed to see her “idol” in real person could not just stand the excitement of seeing Sarkodie on stage. She jumped onto the stage and flung herself at his feet. Not even the security guards on duty could get the lady who was holding the feet of Sarkodie off the stage. Wh

Poor Lumba -Kumasi Residents Reject Lumba’s ‘Yentie Obiaa’

Image
Following the adoption and use of ace musician Daddy Lumba’s latest song ‘Yentie Obiaa’ by President Mahama during his recent visit to the Ashanti Region, some residents in the opposition stronghold of Kumasi have decided to boycott the song. Some of the residents have told Adom News that any time they heard the song being played, to them, it seems as if an insinuation is being cast at them by the President, hence their rejection of the song. A beer bar operator described the situation as being so bad because customers always walk out of his bar when the song is being played. A resident described the song as having suffered the same fate as a cocoa tree under attack from the dreaded swollen shoot disease. Though most of them feel sorry for the renowned musician’s potential loss in arguably the biggest market in Ghana as a result of its virtual hijack by the ruling party, they insist they just could no longer stand the song again because of the attitude of the Presid

I am disappointed in some hip life artistes – Reggie Rockstone

Image
Originator of hip-life music, Reggie Rockstone says he is disappointed in the number of hip life artistes who didn’t attend the campaign for fairness, transparency and equity in the distribution of royalties against Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO). Rockstone was among the several music right owners who turned up at a seminar on Tuesday to call on the interim GHAMRO Board headed by Carlos Sekyi, to respect the constitution governing its operations. Okyeame Kwame, Kojo Antwi, Daddy Lumba, Abrantie Amakye Dede, Rex Omar, Lazy, Daddy Bosco, Prodigal, Appietus, Bessa Simons, and Obour were also present at the event. Speaking at the seminar, Rockstone said royalties are crucial to musicians, especially hip-life artistes who are in the majority and the young crop of artistes in Ghana’s music industry. He said hip-life musicians would be the ones to suffer most in the future if they did not join the campaign to ensure the proper handling of royalties. Reggie was

Negotiate With Boko Haram - Gov Shettima Tells President Jonathan

Image
The Governor of Borno state, Kashim Shettima has asked President Jonathan to negotiate with Boko Haram men if that is what it will take to release the abducted Chibok girls. Governor Shettima made this remark during an interview with CNN's Christiane Amanpour last night. "The issue of not negotiation with the terrorists – it’s out of the question. If it means talking to the devil, it means the devil can come down, we can get back our girls. The group that kidnapped the girls are a bunch of raving lunatics. "Do we have any other option? If I have to talk to the devil to secure the release of the girls, I will do so. President Jonathan did not act on time and did not talk to me over the kidnappings until 19 days after.’’ He also said for the first three weeks after the girls were abducted, the whole thing was politicized. Also speaking, a woman leader of the All Progressive Party Sharon Ikeazor said the situation could have been salvaged on time if the Presi

Ayitey Powers calls for re-match

Boxer, Ayitey Powers is demanding a rematch with Braimah Bukom Banku Kamok after loss to his longtime rival. Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show, Powers said the weight difference was the swing factor for Banku Kamoko. “The weight difference was too much and that was the problem for me. I could have decided not to fight after he came in 8kilos overweight but I felt I needed to respect the fans who had bought tickets so I fought,” he said.  According to Powers, if this fight had been in Europe it would not have been allowed to happen. “I have told his camp already that I want a rematch,” he reiterated. Prior to the bout, Banku weighed 218 pounds, exceeding the upper limit of 200 for the cruiserweight division, while Powers, weighed exactly 200 pounds.
